Giving to Shenandoah

Welcome to the Office of Advancement

Mitch Moore

Thank you for visiting the Office of Advancement online. The Office of Advancement is composed of three primary departments: Advancement, the fundraising arm of the university; Alumni Affairs, the campus partnership for the engagement and involvement of our alumni; and Marketing and Communications, the university's message, promotion and brand advocates.

I am impressed daily with the commitment of the faculty and staff, the strength of our student body and the warmth and generosity of our alumni and friends. One of the early opportunities I had to witness the incredible support of our alumni and friends was the successful completion of SU's first major campaign - The Spirit of Shenandoah - which began in 2003 and ended June 30, 2009. The Spirit of Shenandoah campaign raised more than $65 million in critical support for SU and resulted in several new campus facilities that forever positively changed the footprint of our university community.

During this past year, we are excited to have launched our our online community for alumni - ConnectSU. I encourage all alumni to explore this new social media vehicle and experience the ease of use, directory option to find former classmates and to share your achievements and family updates since graduating. Please stay in touch and get involved at connect.su.edu.

Our newest initiative is the launch of our planned giving resource at giftlegacy.su.edu. There you will find not only up to date tax news, reading resources and commentary on changes in the law coming out of Washington that may affect you, but also easy to understand information and examples of ways to leave a legacy to Shenandoah. Additionally, there are hands on tools to allow you to run your own gift illustrations in the privacy of your home or office. Please use this resource and contact us if we can help you with this planning.

2010 is a special milestone for SU - celebrating 50 years in Winchester. Please make plans to join us throughout the year as we honor this special golden anniversary of the Dayton legacy and the relocation to Winchester. Mark your calendar today to join us at Homecoming 2010, October 15-17 for a great weekend of fellowship and fun.

Still to come are the results of our comprehensive assessment of our communication and branding efforts by our Office of Marketing and Communication.

We are very proud of you, our alumni and friends. Your support during these challenging economic times continues to be strong. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to advance SU's greatest and most immediate opportunities to deliver the best education possible.

The entire Advancement team stands ready to be of assistance to you and to answer any questions you may have. If we may be of service to you, call our office at (540) 665-4512 or e-mail us at develop@su.edu.

Sincerely,

Mitchell L. Moore
